November Annual Meeting and Board Election

Saturday, November 11, 2017

Hello neighbors,

Our final association meeting of 2017 will take place on Monday, November 13, 7:30 PM at Grace Church Van Vorst (Erie and Second Streets). The association board election is the main item on the agenda. All five board positions are open: President, VP of Communication, VP of Membership, Treasurer and Secretary. If you would like to join in one of these positions, please contact HCA Election Officer Jeremy Jacobsen at

Thank you all for your feedback on the proposed parking ordinance. We still have not heard of a definite date for when the ordinance will be presented before City Council. However, your collated input on the proposed change to allow non-permit parking for three hours in our zone has been sent to City Hall. We will keep you posted as soon as we get more details about when, and what, the final ordinance presented to the council will contain.

As you know, there will be a runoff election for the hotly contested Ward E council seat between James Solomon and Rebecca Symes. The runoff is scheduled for Tuesday, December 5. The Downtown Coalition of Neighborhood Associations is planning a runoff forum for the two Ward E candidates. Stay tuned for details.

The Jersey City property revaluation continues through the fall. Expect to see information and instructions in your mail later in the year. Information about the reval, including progress and the process, can be found here.

The Embankment Preservation Committee hosts the Embankment Coalition Annual Meeting on Sunday, November 19 from 4 to 6 PM at the Center for the Arts at Casa Colombo (380 Monmouth Street). RSVP here to learn about our 2017 preservation efforts and celebrate our community of volunteers. Free admission and refreshments will be served.

And finally, the annual DCNA Holiday Party is confirmed for Saturday, December 9 from 7 to 11 PM at Barrow Mansion (83 Wayne Street). We need your help to decorate the space, so if you can, drop by on the evening of Friday, December 8. This lovely event is open to all and promises lots of food, drinks, music and great conversation!

It’s been nice representing HCA for the past five months. See you at our last 2017 meeting on Monday and stay warm!

Rachel Dsilva,
HCA President
