Thursday, October 27, 2011

It's only a few days left until our biggest event of the year, the 2nd Annual Afternoon of Fright on 4th Street. But to make it a truly successful community event, we need your help. Most of the activities are accounted for but volunteers are urgently needed with the following. If you can spare any time at all during the event, please send us an email at newsHCA@gmail.com or click here:

Leaf Jump (need to be able to help kids jump in and out):
3-4pm (2 people)
4-5pm (2 people)
5-6pm (2 people)

Bouncy Castle:
3-4pm (1 person)
4-5pm (1 person)
5-6pm (1 person)

DCNA At-Large City Council Candidates Forum

We're also pleased to announce that the Downtown Coalition of Neighborhood Associations (of which the Harsimus Cove Association is part) is sponsoring a Jersey City Council Candidate forum to be held on Wednesday, November 2nd from 7 to 9pm in the auditorium at Ferris High School (35 Colgate Street).

With just one week to go for the special election on November 8th, the DCNA forum will be moderated by Dr. Jonathan Wharton, a board member of the Historic Paulus Hook Association and Professor of Political Science at Stevens Institute of Technology. The forum will include popular questions asked by fans of the Jersey City Council Candidates Forum Facebook page. Short videos of the candidate answers will be posted on Facebook following the forum.

"The inclusion of Facebook in this forum aims to harness the power of social media to let residents determine what questions they want the candidates to answer and to provide residents, especially those who can't attend the forums in person, an opportunity to actually see and hear the candidates," said forum organizer Candice Osborne. The Jersey City Council Candidates Forum Facebook page was created by Candice Osborne in conjunction with the Jersey City Independent. HPHA board member Stephanie Daniels is producing the event.
