Our guest speaker will likely be Mike Razzoli, Director of the Department of Public Works or someone from his office to discuss the Newark Avenue closing. Yvonne Garlin, from Doors of Hope, has also been invited to speak.

Trash and Recycling Collection in Harsimus Cove

The quality of trash and recycling collection in Harsimus Cove has been an ongoing issue for years. We've been logging the misdeeds with SeeClickFix for several years now and have engaged in discussions with the JCIA and RRC (Resident Response Center) several times. We were hopeful that with the new year and with a new collection company, Regional Industries, that collection would improve.

New York SMSA Limited Partnership (Verizon Wireless) wants to install cellular antennas on the roof of 238 Fifth Street. They are seeking approval for the Zoning Board of Adjustments to install their antennas in the Harsimus Cove Historic District.

Harsimus Cove Association Priority Intersections for Traffic Calming

Councilwoman Candice Osborne asked us to come up with our three priority intersections to be addressed with traffic calming measures. While we are firm believers that traffic calming requires a holistic study, we understand that this is just the beginning of a long term effort to make the streets of Harsimus Cove safe for pedestrian, bicyclist and driver alike.

Harsimus Cove Association Asks for Second Public Hearing Regarding Pulaski Skyway Closing

The Harsimus Cove Assocaiton was satisfied with neither the location nor the time of the public hearing regarding the closing of the Pulaski Skyway's inbound lanes for two years while the span is repaired. We wrote a letter to Assemblyman Ruben Ramos who represents the 33rd District and also sits on the Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities committee. We have asked for another hearing.

Bike Lanes Are Coming to Harsimus Cove

Plans for city-wide bike lanes were revealed in a press conference held by Mayor Healy in December. The City's plans will eventually implement over 35 miles of bike lanes and 20 miles of shared lanes, or "sharrows." And yes, Harsimus Cove is getting some.

Harsimus Cove Association Submits "Graffiti Audit" to JCIA's Anti-Graffiti Task Force

The Harsimus Cove Association (HCA) submitted a comprehensive graffiti audit on Thursday, September 27 to the Jersey City Incinerator Authority's (JCIA) Anti-Graffiti Task Force. The report includes details for each graffiti offense including a description, a photo and any comments that have been added to the issue since it was first recorded on, a website that the HCA uses to track quality of life issues within the Harsimus Cove neighborhood.
